How MonitorExam is Making Exams Secure with FIDO
Proctoring an exam is ensuring that an exam is credible. An exam is not useful if one is not sure that it is credible or not. All over the world students promise and follow the honor code, but there is always a concern in the minds to conducting bodies
“What if a student decides/is tempted to disregard the honor code?”
To answer the trust deficit MonitorExam was built. A system which by design ensures that the exams are credible.
This credibility is ensured in two phases:
Phase 1:
You go to the testing center and get yourself verified. This is done digitally with the help of our Authentication and Authorization module.
Student enters Username and Password
Student enters verification room
A photo is clicked
The desktop is verified
A govt id card is uploaded
In this process we are not using any biometric authentication. In the last poll that I did regarding authentication more than 50% respondents said they want biometric authentication. Hence the point of adding FIDO.
It adds an additional level of security to the system and makes exams more credible.
Phase 2:
- Everything is verified and you enter the exam room.
- A lot can go wrong here too. MonitorExam keeps an eye on the student and highlights doubtful students to the proctor on his dashboard.
- This way proctor can focus on these students and write his/her observations as remarks.
- For each student it also maintains a cred score. This score enables the proctor to know how credible the student has been throughout the exam. So even if he was away MonitorExam is tracking the students.
- We are also planning to bring continuous authentication where the user will be asked to verify himself/herself at random times once exams have started. This will reduce the risk of impersonation once the exam during later stages of exam.
