How to Reduce Cost of College Degree in US if you can Self-Study(contd 2)

Thanks for reading our earlier two blogs. We shared that if a student can self-study he/she can get credits from outside the college which provide greater flexibility to the student in terms of cost, time and location.

Here is the list of various types of credits accepted by colleges.

College Credit

College will evaluate undergraduate courses from other colleges or universities for possible transfer credit

AP Credit

If you have taken relevant Advanced Placement (AP) tests, you may be able to earn credit.

Advanced Level Credit

Students who have taken Advanced Level (A-Level) Examinations may be able to earn credit.

IB Credit

Students who have taken International Baccalaureate (IB) Examinations may be able to earn credit.

CLEP Credit

Taking College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) examinations may allow you to earn credit.

DSST Credit

DANTES Subject Standardized Test (DSST) allows students to earn college credit for material they already know

Military Credit

Military students may be eligible for credit from educational experiences in the armed forces. Credits are calculated using the ACE Military Guide.

Credit By Validation

Course work completed at non-accredited institutions may be eligible for credit by validation.

Country Specific Examination Credit:

Credits for examinations taken outside of Unites States are accepted by some colleges. These are generally listed on their websites.

Whether your choice of UG college will honor the credits or not will depend on the following.

  1. Type of credit: Whether it is a Pass/Fail test or not
  2. Score in the credit
  3. When did you take the test
  4. The college you are doing UG from offers corresponding courses
  5. Results must be sent directly from College Board or IB Organization

The college, department has the final say on which credits will be honored
