Proctoring in Colleges

Earn while you learn

Are you a student about to enter college?

Are you looking to earn while studying?

While there are several options for you, like becoming a Teaching Assistant, a Learning Assistant and so on, becoming a proctor is one of the low hanging part-time jobs with minimum commitment.

A proctor is paid $10- $20 per hour and is an important contributor in maintaining integrity of the exams.

A Proctor's or Testing Specialist's assignment goes like this:

  • Look at the calendar of proctored exams in testing center
  • Pick the slot which suits you and commit to it
  • Collect the question papers and scantrons and take them to the examination centre
  • Distribute the question paper among the students
  • Watch out for any suspicious behaviour in the examination hall
  • Collect the answer sheets and deposit them.

Now the next question is who do you contact in college to become a proctor?

At the Testing Center a Testing Center Coordinator manages the

  • Creation of calendar of proctored exams
  • Recruiting, training, paying the student proctors who act as Testing Center's temporary employees
  • Help students in scheduling their exams. At some places it takes 90% of their time.
  • Keeping track of new proctoring technologies and managing the existing ones with the supervisor
  • Maintaining data regarding the tests
  • Ensuring that the NCTA guidelines and FERPA regulations are met

and so on.

All this is done by a very small and diligent team and sometimes by just one person with the help of the supervisor who is generally the Dean, Director or a Manager depending on the college.
