PEER PRESSURE DURING ONLINE CLASSES
Get to know about common concerns on peer pressure.
In this fast-paced generation, students get to be exposed to a lot of things and among all those exposures “Peer Pressure” is a crucial and alarming one. We all make friends in every phase of our life from childhood. Whatever happens in our life we always think of our friends to share it with them, which is peer support. Now, this peer support at times turns into peer pressure. We tend to come under pressure at times by doing something wrong or compromising our morals. This leads to constant fear and questioning of our own integrity.
In the current times where everything is slowly becoming like a pre-pandemic situation, there are many organizations that are still opting for online classes. Students felt excited with a sense of challenge. As there are so many plus points about online classes at the same there are an equal number of negative points too like anxiety, peer pressure, restrictions and helplessness.
Peer Pressure: Points Of Concern During E-learning
- Electronic Gadgets
We all love to talk and show off our new gadgets that we bought, but in the case of students, they brag about their gadgets way more than elders do. This sounds pretty normal and positive, but the students who couldn’t afford to buy new gadgets and only have one gadget with them might feel inferior and tend to become an introvert.
- Surroundings
Surroundings and background play a major role for a student while taking an online class, as they might feel extremely conscious about showing their homes and feel awkward keeping their video on while attending a class. This causes them anxiety and pressure though they have background effects options.
- Online learning
Each one of us has our own pace in grasping things. In a classroom session, teachers tend to students who are lagging behind by giving them extra time. But in a virtual class, it is a difficult task for teachers to give the same attention. Students who couldn’t understand the online session might feel pressure as their peers are able to move on with the next topics.
- Technology
Not every student and parent is tech-savvy. Pressure builds up when they see that their peers are able to access the gadgets without any issues or when the others don't have any technical issues. Students feel helpless due to paucity while submitting their assignments or while giving online exams.
- Other Issues
Issues concerned with lack of discipline and distractions like internet connectivity, and power cuts cause the students to get more pressured as they think that every one of his or her friends is able to finish the work and attend the class on time, but he is not able because of these distractions. Lack of in-person interaction and motivation with each other arises in many misunderstandings between peers.
