Ever happened to you that you changed the password and then forgot it the next day?

The tougher password we set, more is our probability of forgetting it.

In this distracted world the average attention span of a human is just 8.25 seconds.

“I think we have the attention span of a gnat. You know, with cell phones and Twitter.” ~ Jeff Daniels

So it might happen that we set a password and then switch to another task, leading to our never registering the password carefully.

In this world more and more of our daily lives are moving online. We are constantly doing a tradeoff between complexity and ease of remebering passwords.

In these times for our personal devices newer ways of authenticating have come up like:

Picture Passwords:

  • You select a picture and draw three gestures on it. So that becomes your password. This is great for visual learners.

Fingerprint Authentication:

  • These are great for devices which have fingerprint sensors. You just have to remember which finger you used for setting the password.

Face Authentication:

Once face authentication is setup, the system camera automatically looks for a face, identifies it and logs you in. Totally seamless. Great for entering the house with hands full of shopping bags. This one is what we call ‘Calm Technology’ i.e.

Technology should require the smallest possible amount of attention

In a recent poll done by MonitorExam, 72%(61+11) of the audience said that they want to use automatic or biometric ways of authenticating.
