Live Proctoring
The Pros & Cons - Vol.1.
It’s the final season and many of you are probably studying for your exams right now or preparing for competitive exams and interviews. In the era of online learning, our mode of taking exams is becoming different too. Instead of tiny desks, benches, rushing to the examination halls or organizations and sitting in the classrooms or in front of the interviewer, we are more interested in taking an exam or an interview at home.
Now after online exams, there are increased concerns about cheating during online exams or interviews. So several companies have developed AI-based proctored solutions for these concerns, by monitoring your behaviour. But the question is how does auto proctoring even work? And for the same online exams, few organizations are opting for live proctoring, instead of AI-based proctoring. Let's find out what these two proctors do and how they work.
Live Proctoring
Live Proctoring is a remote proctoring solution where a person actively monitors the exam. The test-takers are expected to share their screen, video and audio with the person monitoring to start taking the exam. The proctor can track all your activity during the exam. All those stats are visible to the proctor who will use them to make a report and determine whether or not you are executing the cheating behaviours. The monitoring person can intervene during the exam if any issue arises and is expected to give a detailed report after the exam completion. The whole exam will be recorded live and can be verified at a later time if any potential issues arise.
Pros of Live Proctoring
The complete session is live.
As a person constantly monitors the exam, it’s more comfortable for the organization’s integrity.
Proctors can intervene live if an issue arises.
The session is recorded, and the organizations can re-check the session.
Cons of Live Proctoring
Most of the time, proctors watch out for more than 10 students at a time. As their attention is being divided there is a chance of missing a few incidents.
The exam should be a scheduled one.
Proctors might get distracted due to their personal commitments or last-minute rescheduling.
Students might feel pressure, anxiety and stress because of constant monitoring.
Technical issues like internet connectivity.
